Growing and giving birth to a child is hard work and certainly takes a toll on your body.
As mothers we often focus entirely on our family and tend to neglect ourselves.
It is true what they say. If you are feeling happy and confident within yourself, everyone around you will feel happy and fulfilled too.
Taking care of you
- Get a Haircut
During pregnancy we grow extra hair. After childbirth this hair will often fall out (some times in large amounts). It is a good idea to get regular hair cut during this period to help ensure your hair stays healthy and you look great!
- Treat yourself
Take a couple hours out in a week to get a pedicure, manicure or massage. Organize a baby sitter and pamper yourself. It is amazing how a simple beauty treatment can make you feel.
- Take a bath
Take a long hot bubble bath once a week. Put a do not disturb sign up on the door, light some candles and close your eyes.
The warm water will help to sooth any aches and pains and is sure to bring a smile to your face.
- Go shopping
After wearing the same maternity clothes its time to get some new pieces of clothing. Choose fun pieces that compliment your figure ie. wrap dress, new jeans, pretty tops and or accessories.
Purchasing a good, well-fitted nursing bras will also help to make you feel like a million dollars. It will not only enhance your figure but will support your heavy chest.
- Dress for success
Take time in the morning to get ready for the day. Shower, do your hair and pick out an outfit that makes you feel fab.
Looking good will help you to feel good on the inside too.
- Go for a walk
Getting fresh air is a wonderful way to recharge. Go for a gentle walk with baby.
- Join a child friendly gym
Exercise is not only good for weight loss, but is a wonderful way to strengthen muscles and release stress and tension. Most gyms now have young child minding and entertainment facilities. It’s a great way to get your child stimulated and interacting too.
- Join a mothers group
Meeting like-minded women will help to keep everything in perspective. Isolation can be a common cause of depression and feeling of helplessness.
- Eat fresh foods
Prepare fresh meals and eat healthy. Avoid too many sugary and processed foods, as they will make you feel lethargic and tired.
Healthy food choices will also help to aid in your weight loose journey.
Drink plenty of water. Keeping hydrated will help to aid in weight loss and will keep your skin looking fresh and youthful.
Use a good moisturizer on your body, hands and face. Moisturizer will help keep nourish your skin and will give it a youthful glow.
Use a good skin cleanser daily. A good skin cleanser will help to give your skin a healthy appearance.
Listen to your body. Giving birth and raising a newborn is hard work. Take a nap in the day when baby is sleeping. Short naps will help to lift your mood and give you energy.
We have a responsibility to ourselves and to our loved ones to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically.
Just because you are a mother, does not mean you have to stop doing the things that are important to you.
Prioritize and make sure you leave time in your day for those things that make you happy.
A happy mum raises a happy family!
